Nicola Gatta is celebrated as Italy’s best and most exciting sparkling winemaker, crafting deeply expressive and compelling wines that stand shoulder to shoulder with the very finest grower Champagnes. This is not just hype – Nicola Gatta was the only non-Champagne producer invited to pour at La Paulée in New York, where his wines were fêted side by side against icons like Salon.
In homage to this ‘Judgement of Paris’ moment, Élevage will host a “Gatta versus the Rest” dinner at 10 Cases on Wednesday 16th July.
We will taste Gatta’s 2 Parcella from opposing sides of his top cru, Campiani East & West, comparing Blanc de Noir versus Blanc de Blanc, both aged 50 moons on lees, and using a solera reserve set up in 2017. We will also experience the Campiani West & East plots together in the sensational Molener Rosé, aged approximately 7.5 years on lees, as well as the signature of Gatta’s style, the 11.21 Perpetuo Nature Blanc de Noir, an assemblage of Pinots from soleras of 10 consecutive vintages (2011-2021), aged a further 36 months together.
Against this we will compare the latest and 2nd ever release of our thrilling Ambonnay Grand Cru, Fabrice Payelle’s Cuvée Marie-Nöelle Ledru, as well as the 6th edition of Gaspard Brochet’s first ever wine, the Lion (Tome VI), also pure Pinot Noir from a single vineyard of Le Mont Benoit in Villers aux Noeuds, Petit Montagne de Reims.
This is set to be an ebullient and scintillating examination of some of the finest sparkling wines made in the world today, in the company of the legend that is Nicola himself.
When you want to drink great bubbles, Nicola Gatta is the wine to open. Just don’t call it Franciacorta!
