Perched on a limestone ridge overlooking the Vistula River in southeastern Poland, Winnica Kamil Barczentewicz is one of the country’s most ambitious and terroir-focused wine estates. Located near the village of Dobre, just upstream from the historic town of Kazimierz Dolny in the Małopolski Przełom Wisły region, the estate occupies 11 hectares of south-west-facing slopes at 200m above sea level. The vineyard’s natural amphitheatre benefits from a striking 80m elevation gradient and proximity to the river & a reserve of xerothermic meadows, which help moderate the harshness of Poland’s continental climate and allows for extended ripening and growing season balance.
Established between 2017 and 2019, the vineyard was carefully planted with Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir (including early-ripening Frühburgunder), and Blaufränkisch. Small amounts (3%) of resilient hybrid grapes—Regent, Souvignier Gris, and Cabernet Cortis—are grown primarily for experimentation . These plantings grow in a complex mosaic of soils: limestone-rich clay, loess, and sandy subsoils, which together yield wines with tension, salinity, and distinctive minerality.
From its inception, the project has been rooted in principles of sustainability and low intervention. In 2024, the vineyard achieved full organic certification, a milestone that reflects its ecological focus and commitment to soil health and biodiversity. All fruit is hand-harvested and sorted in the vineyard, and vineyard work is conducted with meticulous care and attention by a small team under the direct supervision of Kamil and his wife Ania.
In the cellar, the approach is minimalist but precise. Indigenous yeasts are used for all fermentations, and the wines are vinified in a mix of stainless steel, seasoned oak barrels, and custom-made concrete eggs—the first of their kind in Poland. Fermentations are spontaneous, and ageing often occurs on fine lees, sometimes for up to 10 months, to enhance texture and preserve freshness without compromising purity of site. The resulting wines are expressive, structured, and elegant, capturing both the edge and potential of Poland’s emerging fine wine identity. Since their debut in 2019, they have garnered critical acclaim and rapidly established Kamil as the leading benchmark for quality in Poland.
Winnica Kamil Barczentewicz is more than a winery—it is a statement of possibility for Polish fine wine, rooted in a respect for nature, a vision for terroir, and a drive to craft wines of elegance, authenticity, and place.
